چکیده
abstract background: in iran gastric cancer is the second most common cancer and the most cause of death cancer, the aim of this study is provide map geographical distribution of gastric cancer and detect high risk cluster with use of space-time scan statistic. methods: this was an applied study. the data is provided from reports published by center for disease control office in ministry of health; also the data is registred by province for a period of 5 years from 2005 to 2009. for analyzing the data and detecting the cluster, we use satscan software and for mapping the distribution of gastric cancer and showing the cluster in the country we use arcgis10. findings: we find three high risk clusters. the most likely cluster which is statistically significant were contain provinces ardabil, gilan, zanjan, east azerbaijan, qazvin, west azerbaijan, kurdistan, hamedan, tehran and mazandaran during 2008 to 2009. in addition to the most likely cluster we find two secondary cluster.the first secondary clusters which were statistically significant contain provinces south khorasan, kerman and khorasan razavi. the second cluster that is not statistically significant contains just kohgiloye and boyer ahmad). conclusion: high risk point that was detected by space-time scan statistic include province in north, northwest and center of iran specially ardabil, mazandaran, gilan and kurdistan. this study suggests screening tests in the high risk point and do more epidemiological study for implementing prevention programs key words: gastric cancer, space- time scan statistic, detecting cluster, disease mapping

Identifying high-risk clusters of gastric cancer incidence in Iran, 2004 - 2009.
BACKGROUND Gastric cancer is considered as the second most prevalent cancer in Iran. The present research sought to identify high risk clusters of gastric cancer with mapping using space-time scan statistics. MATERIALS AND METHODS The present research is of descriptive type. The required data were gathered from the registered cancer reports of Cancer Control Office in the Center for Non Commu...
متن کاملTrend analysis of gastric cancer incidence in Iran and its six geographical areas during 2000-2005.
OBJECTIVE Gastric cancer is the fourth most common cancer worldwide. While it is one of the most common cancers in Iran, there are only limited data regarding incidence trends in the country. This study is the first of its type to investigate trends across six geographical areas during 2000-2005 using cancer registry data. MATERIALS AND METHODS The registered data for gastric cancer cases in ...
متن کاملIncidence trends of colorectal cancer in Iran during 2000-2009: A population-based study
Background: As the third leading cause of death, cancers have a special place in the Iranian health system. Several studies have been done in some regions of the country with few years of follow-ups, but this was the first standardized study to investigate the incidence trends of colorectal cancer in Iran in a one-decade period. Methods: The registered data for colorectal cancer cases...
متن کاملA spatial scan statistic for nonisotropic two-level risk cluster.
Spatial scan statistic methods are commonly used for geographical disease surveillance and cluster detection. The standard spatial scan statistic does not model any variability in the underlying risks of subregions belonging to a detected cluster. For a multilevel risk cluster, the isotonic spatial scan statistic could model a centralized high-risk kernel in the cluster. Because variations in d...
متن کاملInaccuracy, Uncertainty and the Space-Time Permutation Scan Statistic
The space-time permutation scan statistic (STPSS) is designed to identify hot (and cool) spots of space-time interaction within patterns of spatio-temporal events. While the method has been adopted widely in practice, there has been little consideration of the effect inaccurate and/or incomplete input data may have on its results. Given the pervasiveness of inaccuracy, uncertainty and incomplet...
متن کاملA Space–Time Permutation Scan Statistic for Disease Outbreak Detection
BACKGROUND The ability to detect disease outbreaks early is important in order to minimize morbidity and mortality through timely implementation of disease prevention and control measures. Many national, state, and local health departments are launching disease surveillance systems with daily analyses of hospital emergency department visits, ambulance dispatch calls, or pharmacy sales for which...
